I know this is UNHEARD of in my life of blogging. This is true your not dreaming I really did blog 3 times this weekend!! But this blog like my last entry calls for celebration..... Divot, my baby is 4!! I can't believe that it has been 4 years since I brought that little guy ( not so little anymore I guess)home. I was so excited that my dad gave in and let me get another dog. After our Lab, Lady, passed away I begged for years for a new dog. The day came and the dog was ALL MINE!!! My parents got him for my birthday so he means so much to me.
I can still remember all the pee stains, toilet paper shredded throughout the house and the little puppy that would jump on to the dinning room table and wait for someone to come home. Thankfully all the pee stains are at my mom's house and a new taller table solved that problem!! (sorry mom!) These memories made me really nervous about bringing him to AR to our new house and to my OCD husband! Well lets just say we have had some "incidents".
1. Deric NOT me decided Divot needed to go in a crate, so I bought him one. He broke it the first time he was in it, yes the 12 pound dog broke it. So the next time he went in it we had to put him in the bathroom because he broke the plastic on the bottom. I got home and went to get him out and noticed that the shower curtain was pulled off the rod and the curtain and liner was inside the crate. At first I didn't see Div because the shower curtain was black and white like him! So after 3 other crates we have given up!
2. Deric came home for lunch one day and Divot had knock over some house plants. They were sitting on the ledge of the kitchen look through so when they fell dirt went all over our couch and carpet! Then Divot looked like he had rolled in it to keep him busy till someone came home.
3. Divot must had felt like a a puppy once again. I came home to a T.Pd house. We had just went to the store and bought a huge thing of toilet paper..... didn't have but maybe one full roll to use after he was done with it!
4. Speaking of the ledge in the kitchen..... Divot noticed one day that if he jumped on to the couch he could walk onto the ledge and then on to the kitchen counter tops! Counter tops equals FOOD!! Thankfully I married a man was is OCD and we don't leave food on the counter!! But how we caught him was the little doggy footprints across the granite!!! Divot has learned that he isn't getting anything up there so he has stopped!
Don't worry Divot is now a great dog...... I think he was bad because he was bored! When we got Birdie all of Divot's bad behavior stopped, plus all the new tips from the show "It's Me or the Dog" have helped! And come on he is sooo cute we can't stay mad at him! Just look at that face!
So don't give up on your little pup just yet! A little training and some tough love will do the job!
On a side note.......
For the first time I made homemade dog treats. My friend Val gave me a book with cute little cookie cutters that have great recipes for the pup in your life! I decided to start with the Cheese Biscuit. Super easy and tasty (yes I tried em out!) Divot and Birdie loved them. Marcia aka my AR mom is taking the pups over to her house today so Divot and Birdie can play with Jack. She is so sweet to do that!
Here's what in the Biscuits....
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup unbleached flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 Parmesan cheese
1/4 cheddar cheese
1 large egg
3/4 cup water
Amanda, you are such a better mom than me...Bonnie didn't get biscuits on her birthday. I won't read this blog to her and she'll never even know what she missed. :) Thanks for the recipe and happy birthday to Divot!
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to make doggie bisucits FOREVER! I think it's such a great idea! I saw a special on Oprah a long time ago that sparked my imagination...why not cake AND doggy biscuits!?! I could make both. I've just never done it. I am going to try out your recipe soon! Thanks Amanda, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIVOT!
